Research
Computational Models
This line of our research is devoted to the development of computational models for optoelectronics. They can range from atomistic ab-initio quantum theories, to continuum finite-element type models up to system-level descriptions. The level of detail is driven by the complexity of the device or system under study. The goal is to apply the models to real-world applications, and to capture the underlying physics, in order to enable computer-based device design and analysis. Optoelectronics is a rich field for such a purpose, as it contains optical, electronic and thermal properties, which are often coupled together. This leads to coupled multi-physics problems in two or three dimensions, that require dedicated numerical algorithms and solvers.
Physics and Design
This activity targets the application of computational models
to the design and analysis of current and future optoelectronic materials, devices and systems.
Key activities are:
- TCAD (technology computer aided design): fabless design for performance, reliability and yield
- feasibility studies and research on future concepts
- analysis of underlying physics, visualization of internal quantities
- calibration of models and interpretation of measurements
Within this scope, we are involved in numerous national and international collaborations. A selection of our research activities are listed on the left.
